The dealer which had !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! which !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! before I could get to it on Tuesday has another reasonably cheap car in their inventory, only this one is much cooler. It's a 1985 Mazda RX-7 GSL, with 78k miles. The price is $5,995, a grand over the Olds, but still reasonable. Admittedly, you get far fewer features than you do in the Aurora, and you are far more likely to be killed when some douchebag in a bro-truck or oblivious soccer mom in a GL450 runs a red light and t-bones you. Also, amusingly, the V8, automatic, two ton Oldsmobile was rated at 18/26 MPG. The 1.1 Liter, 2300lb, Manual Mazda? A hysterically low 15/21, or exactly the same as a Chevy Suburban 4x4. Even with the famously inefficient rotary engine, I'm amazed they managed to get those numbers so low. Nevertheless, I am hopefully going down to have a look at it Tuesday morning, and I well report back after that.

Don't look, buy! Just buy it.
Call them now and say you are on your way, walking with cash to drive it home... but the walk will take til Tuesday, so no selling it!

buy it or face my wrath!
(BTW, the commonly accepted term for the engine size is 1.2l, and is, because of that, called the 12a)
and, as everyone will say when you mention the cars, know what youre getting into and see if anyone in your area works on them, they really need to be worked on by someone who knows what they're doing or you get people saying "uh, rotarys are unreliable" because 2 bros tried to build a motor in their backyard one day..
But they really are great cars, i hope you buy it!

I hope so too, but getting my dad to agree to a 15mpg first car that is as safe as a convertible jet fighter will take either a) a miracle, or b)a price drop of at least a grand. Still, he didn't say hell no, and he is going down with me to look at the car.

lol, first gens never really stuck me as unsafe, per-say.. but definitely not the safest car of its time.. and yea, they like gas.. but at cruise, it honestly shouldn't be too bad..
but in all honesty, maybe hes right.. a fuel-hungry, carbureted, live-axle equiped, rwd car with no driver's aids at all, and a motor which few people understand, might not be the best idea.. but it sure beats the hell out of an Oldsmobile..

Yes, yes it does. Unfortunately, the above mentioned higher power will likely veto me due to the reasons you just mentioned, plus the safety and fuel economy.
There is a chance, though.
